AAVIP Register to Vote Denver metro area

January 1st, 2008: Earliest day to apply for a mail-in ballot for an election in 2008. The application shall and filed no earlier than January 1, 2008.

January 7th: Last day to register to vote for the February 5th precinct caucus.

GENERAL MUNICIPAL MAIL BALLOT ELECTION

Polls open 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Emergency Absentee Ballots must be returned no later than 7:00 p.m. on Election Day.

All Ballots must be received by the Denver Election no later than 7:00 p.m. to be counted in the
General Municipal Election.

Remember, the May 1st Election is a mail-only ballot which you can either mail back in on drop off at one of the Drop-Off points. The Post Office should deliver a card with the following information for the drop-off points, so keep an eye out for it. However, here is the information anyway for your reference.

will also be available for ballot drop-off from
8 am - 7pm. Monday, April 23 through Friday, April 27 and again on Monday, April 30.

The Denver Election Headquarters will also have curbside drop-off on Court Place between Colfax and 14th St . from 7 AM - 7 PM on Election Day , Tuesday, May 1.

All sites will be open from 7 AM - 7 PM on
Election Day.

on ELECTION DAY

Choose Your Voting Method

Denver Clerk & Recorder, Stephanie O'Malley accepted the recommendation of her Election Model Advisory Committee in planning the November 2008 Election process.

This plan meets federal laws for equal access and an auditable voter record using available technology at a reasonable cost.

The plan calls for the following:

Paper ballots in about 175 precincts on Election Day
Early voting at a few locations two weeks before Election Day, where any registered Denver voter may cast a ballot
Electronic voting for disabled voters at all Early and Election Day sites
Centralized counting of paper ballots by optical scanners
Mail ballots available for any voter who requests one.

To use the 240 electronic machines for disabled voters, Denver successfully appealed to the Colorado Secretary of State to recertify the machines. The Secretary of state had already certified Denver 's optical scanners to count the paper ballots, but the City must purchase more scanners to accommodate the volume of ballots cast in a presidential election. Once an ordinance is drafted, City Council should approve a budget amendment to buy them.

Current law permits Denver 's Election Plan, and the recent defeat of Senate Bill 189 has no affect on Denver 's Election Plan.

Denver Clerk and Recorder, Stephanie O'Malley stated early on that counties should be able to choose their own election model. We favor choice and local control for the counties as does most of the Denver City Council.
